Outing to Shibden

Those picking the coach up in Cottingham by arrangement with Barbara leaves at 8-00am. Coach departs MKM Stadium at 8-30am.

This is a must this year as the hall is celebrating its 600 year anniversary.

We will arrive at the Mere Café on the estate at about 10.30 for morning coffee and biscuits.  Then we will take the Land Train through the Estate to the Hall, – the home of the legendary Anne Lister, who was portrayed in the series Gentleman Jack – for an hour’s tour.  The land train will take us back to the coach, and then we will travel to the Bankfield museum, which is where the 600 year exhibition is being held.

Then we will travel to the famous Piece Hall in Halifax, where you can enjoy so much in this amazing Georgian building.

Dating back to 1779, it was built as a Cloth Hall, where merchants traded their ‘pieces of cloth’.  A piece of woven woolen fabric measured 30 yards, and this was the hub of the wealthy industry in that part of the country in this era.
