Here is the latest update from Barbara
We will leave Cottingham at 8.00am and the MKM at 8.30am.
Hopefully we will arrive at Roundhay Park for 10 ish when the centre opens.
I am told that the self-conducted tour takes 1 to 1 ½ hours. There is a shop and a small café, but I want to be back on the road for 11.45am.
The journey to Hebden Bridge from there takes just over the hour.
We are using the Stubbing Wharf pub as a base.
They have given us their ‘upper room’ for the afternoon.
Hopefully you will buy drinks and food there. The doors from this room lead straight on to the tow-path where we get onto the boat. If it’s a nice day – there are outside tables and benches for you to sit at. Gordon and I have already had a visit, and it was so lovely and peaceful.
A gentle walk of about 7 minutes takes you back into Hebden Bridge along the tow-path.
The bus will be parked almost opposite the pub, for the afternoon.
Boat tours will begin about 1.30 and you can decide amongst yourselves what time you would like to go. Only 12 at a time every hour!!
We can also arrange to drop off or pick up in Hebden Bridge for those of you that don’t want to come to the pub.

Previous Update
We will head towards TROPICAL WORLD near Roundhay Park where we will stay for about 1 ½ hours.
Then we will head to Hebden Bridge – the childhood home of Ed Sheeran, and the filming location of Happy Valley and Last Tango in Halifax.
You will be free to enjoy this very important and interesting market town and it will be Market day too! This area became a huge part in the Industrial Revolution when complicated machinery was designed to assist in manufacturing and factories grew up all over – a lot still standing today. This area was producing textiles of all types, and raw materials were being carried along the canals in barges.
You will get the chance to ride in a canal boat with a very informative commentary,
This is on the Rochdale Canal but only holds 12 at a time. We will charter it for the whole afternoon. You can buy your drinks and/or food from the shops or the pub and take it on board with you. There are plenty of ‘nice’ shops, cafes, pubs etc. also museums and interesting buildings. And scenic walks! Look on the internet, to see if you are interested.
The cost will be £19 for the coach and £9 for the Tropical World.
If you wish to go on the canal boat – then that is an extra £15 each.
So the total will be £28 without the canal trip and £43 with it.
You can bring your own pack-up or eat in the local establishments!
Coach timing to be updated nearer the day.
