Our members enjoyed another afternoon, catching up with friends and listening to our guest speakers.

Before our first guest, Barbara gave out her usual information regarding upcoming events. She is taking names for our Christmas meal and would like the payment by November 10th. Barbara then read out a notice on behalf of Shirley regarding the ‘Kids Takeover’ of our next KCOM Digital Drop-In session on Monday, 20th October. This was a reminder of the upcoming event announced at last month’s members meeting.

Our first guest speaker this month was Tina Hilpert from Home Instead, who is a leading home care provider for older adults. Tina came to talk to our members about the range of care and support they offer to help people remain living in their own home for as long as possible. The official charity of Home Instead is Home Instead Charities, which partly funded our minibus to meetings for this season. Tina said, You name it and we can do it.

Our second guest was City captain Lewie Coyle. Lewie was presented with our Player of the Season trophy by Pat Ellis. Richard Beachell, who interviewed Lewie, said he was absolutely pleased to have Lewie back for a second time and said to him, you must be doing something right to win Player of the Season for a second time and asked Lewie if he was going for the hat trick.

Lewie told us he had a disappointing pre-season through injury. During their pre-season trip to Turkey, he suffered from a viral infection and was laid up in his hotel bedroom most of the time, and not topping up his tan as Richard had suggested. Lewie feels a lot fitter now and hopes to be back where he wants to be after a couple more games. He told us that he is delighted to be club captain again for the fourth season. It’s a huge honour to be captain, and a position he holds very dear to him, to be the captain of his hometown team. Although sometimes he feels more like a secretary or personal assistant to the new players than a captain. But if he can help them settle in, then he is happy to help.

As well as talking football, Lewie spoke about his brothers, in particular Tommy, who is well known to the Senior Tigers. Tommy is in panto at Bridlington Spa this year, and Lewie has been winding him up about it.

Richard finished by asking Lewie about his football academy.  Lewie said it was going really well. He just wants to give something back to Hull for what it has given him.

To finish the afternoon, we held our usual raffle, which raised £232.00.
