On this outing, we had 57 members travelling on Acklam’s newly acquired electric coach.
Professionally driven by our young driver, Ollie, we travelled to the Cliffe Castle pavilion tea rooms. Members were free to have refreshments of their own choice in the beautiful surroundings.
We then went to Platform 4 of Keighley Railway Station to board the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. Our carriage pulled in with the Senior Tigers name on each window and a lamp on each table – almost like the Orient Express!
The 35-minute journey on this vintage railway (used in the 1970 filming of The Railway Children) was very relaxing, but the rain started to fall quite heavily.
Our destination was Oxenhope – at the end of the line, where our coach (and Ollie) was almost at the back door of the station to save us from getting wet.
Ollie then took us to the ’top’ of Haworth, and everyone had a couple of hours to do their own thing. Most people went to the pub or a café for lunch, as the rain was still coming down – which made the cobbled road difficult to walk on. We were picked up at the bottom of the hill, and by this time the weather had faired up.
